Natural fiber reinforced composites are attracting increasing attention for structural and functional applications. The main objective of this research is to develop natural fiber reinforced composite materials that are suitable for different applications by utilizing both synthetic polymer and geopolymers as matrices. The methods of this research include selection of fibers and matrices, assessment of processing methods and measurement of the properties of the new composites, with focus on mechanical properties. Comprehensive characterization of the microstructure of the composites will be also carried out, which will include also the analysis of the characteristics of the fiber/matrix interfaces. This research project is carried out in collaboration with Kombolcah Institute of Technology, Wollo University, Dessie, Ethiopia.
