Tissue engineering usually combines cells and a biodegradable 3D scaffold to repair diseased or damaged tissues. This research project deals with the development of composite scaffolds based on polymer and bioactive glass [1] for both hard and soft tissue engineering applications. These compsite scaffolds are characterised in the terms of microstructure, mechanical properties, biodegradability, cytocompatibility and bioactivity. Another research project is related to "Molecular communications" and is carried out in the framework of the Emerging Fields Initiative (EFI) scheme of FAU. This research project concentrates on design and implementation of synthetic molecular communication systems based on natural mechanisms and processes. Communication between nano and micro objects such as bacteria or other cells.
